Clients + Work
Trusted by Science-Driven Teams to Turn Complex Ideas into Clear, Compelling Content
From biotech to STEM education, I help technical experts and marketers communicate in ways that spark interest, understanding, and action.
Below you’ll find examples of how I’ve partnered with clients across STEM fields to meet their goals, solve communication challenges, and move their business forward.

Scientific Instruments
I’ve worked with PerkinElmer for more than 10 years and for several divisions within the company. Together we’ve developed strategic content for industry-specific customer engagement, thought leadership, and product launches.
Feedback
Here’s one piece of feedback from them that touches on the different ways in which we have worked together over the years.
“I have worked with Chris over many years and she has been amazing to work with. Working with Chris is like having a member of my team who is always looking out for what they can do to help us reach our objectives. I can always trust her to deliver exactly what we need to meet our objectives and marketing plans. She has partnered with me from topic brainstorm through to content promotional content like blogs. My colleagues and the scientists we work with every day respect her knowledge and her work, which eases the burden on me and my team.”
–Senior Global Marketing Manager, Applied Markets at PerkinElmer

Outcomes
Here’s an example of the impact of PerkinElmer’s approach to customer engagement using industry-specific white papers:
The white paper, Semiconductors: Status, Challenges, and Trends, was downloaded 59 times in the first few weeks post-publication, along with the first inquiry leading to a quote and sale at $121,643.
Biosciences
My bioscience writing experience spans from health science and biotechnology to environmental services and toxicology. Here are a few examples of my clients and work.
Brafton/Revvity
Brafton is a content marketing agency with whom I worked for more than a year on a life science project for Revvity (which separated from PerkinElmer). I wrote a lot of white papers, articles, and blog posts for Brafton/Revvity. Here is feedback I received from Brafton and two examples of my work for them.
“Conscientious, responsive, and a fast learner — all traits I value in a writer and all qualities Chris possesses. For these reasons and more, I continue to turn to Chris when I have complex assignments requiring specialized scientific subject matter expertise. We received positive feedback from the client on her work and minimal edits were requested, which is the goal. Also, it doesn’t hurt that she’s an absolute joy to work with!”

Zymergen
I worked with Zymergen (now part of Ginkgo Bioworks) on strategic content that would educate current and potential investors on Zymergen’s R&D. The NDA we had prohibits me from sharing any of that content. I can, however, share their feedback on my work:
“Chris is an outstanding partner for our research and writing projects and has delivered real value to our business. We operate in a complex space with technology that can be as challenging to explain as it is to use. Chris has done a masterful job capturing our key goals, gathering the facts needed to shape our stories, and delivering strong, accessible content.”
–Director of Communications, Zymergen
Forma
Forma Life Science Marketing is an agency that I’ve helped on multiple client projects. Here’s feedback I received from Forma along with a sample of my work for them.
“Chris worked on multiple content projects with us and really brought a sense of calm/peace to what seemed like a chaotic, ever-changing project/client landscape. Not every writer/strategist can be comfortable with being so flexible. Chris is organized, structured, smart, pleasant, and insightful. The client also really liked her work, and we all enjoyed working with her.”

STEM Education
Science education is long been a passion of mine. I taught as an adjunct professor of life sciences for 10 years — it was such a fulfilling experience! I also have the pleasure to work with some amazing STEM education companies. Check out a few of them.
BioBuilder Educational Foundation
BioBuilder brings groundbreaking biotechnology education to high school students. I’ve written their blog posts for more than five years and I am truly honored to work with this remarkable group of people who bring synthetic biology to students around the globe.
“Our organization needed a way to share program updates and impact in a timely and engaging way. Chris Haviland has met our diverse storytelling needs and provided thorough, creative, and professional content. We have been delighted with the results! We have wonderful people in our BioBuilder family – including Chris.”

Carolina Biological Supply Company
I remember using Carolina materials in my high school and college science classes. So, when I started helping them with their marketing content, it felt like coming home to the mother ship! That was more than 10 years ago, and we’ve done a lot of case studies, teacher testimonials, and white papers since then. They are a great bunch of folks who are dedicated to providing the best STEM education curricula and hands-on lab materials for K–college students.
“Partnering with Chris on a variety of content pieces has been a great fit for our company. She embraces each project from the very start. From taking time to meet with us to understand our goals, keeping us up to date on progress, and providing the finished products to us well ahead of schedule, she is a strong asset to our group on special projects. Chris is also an awesome support system for us as we work on case studies and thought leadership articles.”

Bearface Instructional Technologies
Bearface was a startup ed tech business when I helped them write, review, and edit Coaching Healthy Lifestyle Change, a textbook and online training suite for health education programs. As a contributing editor, I wrote sections on the body’s response to exercise, the Exercise is Medicine® initiative, skeletal muscle physiology, obesity, nutrition, and chronic disease. I also reviewed and edited new chapters and sections by other authors.
Bearface became part of Perceivant and that’s where you can check out the book and program:
